The definition
PPM (pouches per minute) is the output rating of a form-fill-seal machine. It counts finished, sealed and cut pouches, not fill cycles.
Why PPM falls as pack size rises
Larger packs need more product per cycle, a longer film pull and a longer seal dwell. On a Joypac JPW-CMHWF weigh filler, output moves from 50–60 PPM at 10–100 gm, to 40–45 PPM at 200 gm–1 kg, to 15–25 PPM at 1–5 kg and 5–12 PPM at 5–10 kg.
Four factors buyers underestimate
- Bulk density: light, fluffy powders take longer to settle in the pouch
- Film quality: thin or poorly wound laminate causes registration stops
- Seal type: centre seal and side seal have different dwell requirements
- Utilities: undersized compressed air supply throttles pneumatic cycles
How to size a machine honestly
Work backwards from your daily target. A 10-hour shift at 40 PPM with 85% real-world efficiency yields roughly 20,400 pouches. Ask any supplier for PPM at your exact pack weight and product — not the headline number.
