The one-line answer
Auger fillers meter fine powder with a rotating screw driven by a servo motor. Cup fillers drop a fixed volume of free-flowing granules from a measuring cup. Product behaviour — not pack size — decides which one you buy.
When to choose a servo auger filler
Fine, aerated or non-free-flowing powders bridge and fluidise. A screw auger under servo control doses them repeatably to ±0.5%, and the fill can be dust-contained.
- Spice powders, chilli and turmeric
- Atta, maida, besan and sooji
- Coffee, health drink and protein powders
- Pharma and nutraceutical powders
When to choose a volumetric cup filler
Free-flowing granules of consistent bulk density fill a cup identically every cycle. This is the fastest and lowest-cost route to automatic pouch packing.
- Dal, pulses and rice
- Sugar, salt and grocery granules
- Tea granules and detergent powders
Speed and accuracy compared
On 10–100 gm packs a Joypac JPW-HSCCF cup filler reaches 55–60 PPM, while the JPW-HSCSAF auger filler reaches 45–50 PPM. Both hold ±0.5% filling accuracy on their intended products; accuracy drops sharply if you pair the wrong system with the wrong product.
What about snacks and irregular pieces?
Neither. Chips, namkeen and dry fruits need a multi-head weigh filler with load cells, because volume is not a reliable proxy for weight when piece size varies.
